Mathematics with Calculus

Content
This course builds on the knowledge from the Level 2 mathematics course. The program will be individualized to meet the needs of the students and to enable students who gain the required Level 2 prerequisites during the year to start this course midyear. This is an academic course aimed at students who are likely to study mathematics at university level.

What skills will I learn?
The following topics will be available for study Algebra, Complex Arithmetic, Binomial & Logarithms, Co-ordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, Differentiation and Integration. This course requires that you purchase a NuLake Calculus workbook costing about $25.

Pre-requisites
The following Level 2 Achievement Standard course must be completed prior to commencement of the Level 3 Achievement Standards.

  • 90284 Manipulate algebraic expressions
  • 90285 Sketch and interpret non-linear graphs
  • 90286 Find and use straight forward derivatives and integrals
  • 90287 Solve problems using the co-ordinate geometry method
  • 90291 Solve practical trigonometric problems
  • 90292 Solve straight forward trigonometric equations

Students who have not completed these units and their corresponding assessments will be given an opportunity during this class to complete work which will enable them to master the skills and concepts needed prior to starting on the Level 3 units.

How is this course assessed?
By achievement standards internally and externally where appropriate.
