Mathematics with Statistics

Content

This course builds on the knowledge from the Level 2 mathematics course. The program will be individualized to meet the needs of the students and to enable students who gain the required Level 2 pre-requisites during the year to start this course midyear. This is an academic course aimed at students who are likely to study statistics at university level.

What skills will I learn?

The following topics will be available for study Time Series, Sample Statistics, Probability, Equations, Statistical Investigation, Probability Distributions and Modelling. This course requires that you purchase a NuLake Statistics and Modelling workbook costing about $25.

Pre-requisites

The following Level 2 Achievement Standard units must be completed prior to commencement of the Level 3 Achievement Standards.

90284 Manipulate algebraic expressions

90285 Sketch and interpret non-linear graphs

90287 Solve straight forward problems involving sequences

90288 Select a sample and make inferences from the data

90289 Simulate probability situations and apply normal distribution

Students who have not completed these units and their corresponding assessments will be given an opportunity during this class to complete work which will enable them to master the skills and concepts needed prior to starting on the Level 3 units.

How is this course assessed?

By achievement standards internally and externally where appropriate.
