Students will complete a selection of units. The units completed may different between students depending on the background knowledge they bring into the course, their ability and their willingness to work.

The work undertaken by students will support a general development of their mathematical skills. A complete course for the year will involve the completion of at least 24 mathematics credits. A Level 1 Certificate in Mathematics requires the completion of 40 credits. Students will be encouraged to work towards the completion of this certificate during their senior years.

There is an opportunity to study both Unit Standards and Achievement Standards in this course. The expectations of the two programs will be slightly different. Basic Mathematics course will comprising only Unit Standards. Units which have already been completed prior to entry to this class will not be reassessed. Those credits will remain as they are and we will study new units.

Those student who wish to write Achievement Standards will be expected to complete the additional learning material provided for those Achievement Standards. This learning material is specifically designed to reinforce the more academic aspects of the individual unit curricula. Students who register to complete Achievement standards will be expected to sit parallel Achievement Standard exams during the exam weeks.
