Information gathering, processing and presentation. Students should learn to organise and carry out tasks for developing these skills without close supervision both individually and in groups.
What should I already have done? (Pre-requisites)
Competency in English, an interest in current events. NCEA Level 1 is useful but not essential
Where does this lead?
NCEA Social Studies Level 3 and tertiary studies. Useful for careers in advertising, all media, law, business, economics, publishing, education, health sciences, travel, human sciences, computer game development, planning, engineering, tourism, politics, law, human resources management, education. To enter architecture engineering/ medicine you are expected to have one of the Humanities (History, Art History, Classical Studies, Geography or Social Sciences) An appreciation of literature and an understanding of our world.
How is this course assessed?
By achievement standards and unit standards. Internally (Int) and Externally (E) assessed.
