This is a practical course in which you will continue to improve your singing and playing skills and learn about music. Attending instrument or voice lessons and practicing work set will be a major part of the course. Being able to play more than one instrument (including voice) is an advantage.

What skills will I learn?

  • Advanced performance skills in your instrument or voice, solo or in a group
  • More about how to make up your own music and write it down
  • How to listen to music and understand it in more detail
  • Using music technology

How will I learn?

By doing it! This is a course for students who like to have a go. You will write music, play and sing, listen, talk and write about what you hear. Practice your instrument or singing on your own and with others.

What should I already have done? (Pre-requisites)

NCEA Level 1 Music. If you have completed half of Level 1, you may work on Level 1 and 2 in the same year.

Where does this lead?

To NCEA Level 3 Music, and to many opportunities beyond school.

How is this course assessed?

Mainly by performance. You will perform to an audience and be recorded. There will be assessments and other assignments.
