  • This is a practical course, in which you will improve your singing and playing skills and learn about music. Attending instrument or voice lessons and practicing work set will be a major part of the course.

What skills will I learn?

  • Performance skills in your instrument or voice, solo and in a group.
  • How to make up your own music and write it down.
  • How to listen to music and understand it.
  • Using music technology

How will I learn?
By doing it!  This is a course for students who like to have a go.

You will write music, play and sing, talk about what you hear, and have time to practice your instrument or singing on your own or with others.

What should I already have done? (Pre-requisites)
It would be a big help if you have learned singing or an instrument.  Year 10 Music would help too. In special cases, you may be able to start your studies at this level if Mr Welch agrees.

Where does this lead?
NCEA Level 2 Music, and many opportunities beyond school.

How is this course assessed?
Mainly by performance.  You will perform to the class (not as scary as it sounds – we get used to it together) and be recorded. There will be tests and other assignments.
