Year 10 Music
Content:
This is a practical course, 5 hours per week, in which you will improve your singing, playing and technology skills and learn about music. We will study topics which closely follow the senior class programme, and you may have the chance to gain level 1 credits during the year.
What skills will I learn?
Performance skills in your instrument or voice, solo and in a group.
How to make up your own music and write it down.
How to listen to music and understand it.
Technical skills related to recording and performance.
What is expected of me?
Attend classes and do your best in all lessons. Follow instructions.
Bring to class, or leave in class, what you need: clearfile, pencil, eraser, sharpener, pens. I’ll supply everything else you need – look after it!
Attend itinerant lessons in your chosen instrument or voice, and keep up your playing or singing through the week (this will be your main homework).
Perform with others and to others. Be prepared for your performances – this will involve group practices.
How is this course assessed?
Mainly by performance. You will perform to the class (not as scary as it sounds – we get used to it together) and be recorded. Assessments are held at various times through the year as the opportunity arises, usually in class concerts, assemblies or other performance opportunities. Your best results are used to give you your grades - you can do another assessment and improve your grade.
Our assessment topics will include solo performance, group performance, composing our own music and music theory.
